PIAA Returning Wrestlers for the 2024-25 Season 2024 All-Academic Teams have been announced In early April, the 2024 Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association (PWCA) All-Academic teams for both boys and girls were announced. Check the link below to see which wrestlers excelled on the mat and in the classroom during the 2023-24 season. Click photo for larger version Click photo for larger version Click photo for larger version The 2023-24 scholastic wrestling season in PA was another great one - with a major addition with girls wrestling! From the start of the season until the last whistle was blown in Hershey at the PIAA Championships – it’s been a historic, thrilling ride. 39 new state champs were crowned on Saturday night in Hershey, including the first ever PIAA girls wrestling state champs and medalists. Plenty of history was made along the way, including adding another member to the 4-time state champs club (Frazier’s Rune Lawrence). Check out all the links below to recap the post-season. Complete 2024 PIAA Championships Brackets/Results: Class AA | Class AAA | Girls State Guess the Placers Contests: Class AA | Class AAA | Girls 2024 PIAA State Qualifiers: Class AA | Class AAA | Girls 2024 PIAA post-season brackets and results List of 2024 PIAA Regional qualifiers Bethlehem Catholic repeats as AAA duals champ; Faith Christian also repeats AA title The 2024 PIAA Team Duals Championships, which concluded on Saturday, February 10th at the Giant Center in Hershey, was a bit of déjà vu from 2023. Both champions from last year repeated again this season, though against different opponents. In AA, Faith Christian Academy won their second straight team championship with a 46-18 victory of Bishop McCort. Expect to see those two teams battling it out in a month for team title at the individual championships. For third place, Notre Dame-Green Pond placed third with their 41-18 win over Reynolds. In AAA, Bethlehem Catholic claimed their third title in a row with a 33-24 win over District 11 rival Easton. The Golden Hawks now have 10 overall duals championships (6 in AAA and 4 in AA). Central Mountain defeated Pennridge 28-24 to take third place. Congratulations to the teams that won medals in the duals tournament! That’s a difficult task and we believe we are missing a few results this season. Check the link below for the latest list of the events we think we are missing. If you have results for those events or you know they never took place, please let us know ! 2023-24 Missing Results 2022-23 Missing Results 2021-22 Missing Results (just missing one dual!) PIAA officially approves sanctioning of girls wrestling beginning in 2023-24! May 17, 2023. Remember that date. That’s the date when girls wrestling was officially sanctioned as sport by the PIAA in Pennsylvania becoming the 38th state in the country to do so. The PIAA had said they would consider girls wrestling once 100 schools sponsored a team. J.P. McCaskey was the first to jump in, when they started an official girls wrestling team on March 17, 2020. While the COVID-19 pandemic slowed things down a bit, by the end of 2020 there were 9 teams. A year later at the end of 2021, the number was up to 31. Fast forward another year, and there were 90 teams at the end of 2022. On February 14, 2023, Pennridge was the 100th school to say yes to girls wrestling. The PIAA got the ball rolling quickly after Pennridge’s announcement, as they had their first of three readings on the application for sanctioning girls wrestling at their meeting on February 22, 2023. The vote was unanimous. One month later on March 22, the second reading was unanimously approved. With no meeting scheduled for April, the stage was set for May 17 to make it official. By then, there were 111 official teams. The third and final vote was also unanimous among the PIAA board. Three years and two months – 1,156 days – since the first school decided to create a girls wrestling team, girls wrestling is now officially a PIAA sport starting with the 2023-24 season!
